WHY AXO?
Life takes you places, but Alpha Chi takes you home! Here at Alpha Chi Omega, sisterhood means the world to us. We're here to build relationships that will last a lifetime. We pride ourselves on recruiting a wide, diverse variety of women who each bring something new and different to our chapter. We value women with a strong sense of character, academic interest, and leadership ability who want to continue to grow as real, strong women and work to make a difference. All this is possible through the constant support of our sisters who encourage each other to be the best versions of themselves.
HISTORY

In the fall of 1885, Professor James Hamilton Howe, dean of the music school at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, invited seven young women from the school to attend a meeting for the purpose of forming a society. The seven young women chosen to attend this first meeting were Anna Allen, Olive Burnett, Bertha Deniston, Amy DuBois, Nellie Gamble, Bessie Grooms and Estelle Leonard. Their desire was to form an organization that would provide both close companionship and support to its members. They believed that such a group would benefit the students, the university, and the musical arts. Invitations of lifetime membership are offered to undergraduate women meeting our national membership criteria: character, personal development, leadership ability, academic interest, and financial responsibility. Alpha Chi Omega has over 170,000 members located throughout the world. Today, there are 132 collegiate chapters throughout the United States.
