Oktoberfest is a week-long competition between fraternities of the Greek community. Alpha Chi members coach fraternities as they compete in a soccer tournament, eating contest and more. Each fall, Oktoberfest is a huge success, with 19 fraternities participating this year.
This spring, Alpha Chi held our first annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a nationwide walk, raising awareness for domestic violence prevention. Alpha Chi is proud to bring it to the University of Washington campus. For Walk a Mile, men don heels to literally walk a mile in her shoes. Alpha Chi was joined by fraternity men, students from the university, members of the community, and special guests, Coach Lorenzo Romar and the men's basketball team, for this year's walk. Romar and all the participants had a great time and lots of laughs sporting their heels for a journey through campus. We all enjoyed bringing attention to such a great cause.
Each of our annual events is a fun way for us to get involved and do our part. We also have many philanthropic opportunities each year as we participate in fraternity and sorority philanthropies and feeds. Some of these include Sigma Chi Derby Days, Delta Tau Delta's Ms. Greek pageant, and Theta Chi's Stampede Week. We love working, playing, and competing in various events as a house, and winning is the icing on the cake! Alpha Chi is proud to have won Delta Tau Delta's Ms. Greek Week for the past two years, earning ourselves front row seats at the Ms. Greek pageant! During the past few years, Alpha Chi has also won Theta Chi's Stampede Week, Delta Upsilon's Soccer Tournament and been runner-up in Phi Kappa Alpha's Pikes Peak.
Of course, the sisters of Rho Chapter also make time to volunteer in the community. We know that we can make a difference in the world by giving back. Members continue to work at this goal by volunteering at Children's Hospital, Boys and Girls Club, area food banks, homeless shelters, and other organizations.
